The Worlds Premier Shearing & Wool Handling Championships

Shearing Gang

There are 40 million sheep in New Zealand and they all need one thing
– to be shorn!

Shearing Gang is a colourful character-driven factual series that goes behind the scenes to reveal the tensions, humour, pressures and expertise of New Zealand’s premiere shearing gangs – all set against some of the most jaw-dropping beautiful landscape in New Zealand.

Coronet Peak, Dunstan Burn, Mt Nicholas, Ben Lomond and Walter Peak are the legendary New Zealand sheep stations. The ten episodes take viewers into the woolsheds of these and other iconic sheep stations in New Zealand’s premiere merino producing region of Central Otago.

Leading the gang is shearing mogul Peter Lyon, who is Central Otago’s biggest shearing operator. In each episode Peter introduces the station and the job, and selects the perfect gang to cut it out. He’s an engaging, pragmatic guy with a great sense of humour who can be tough when he needs to be – he runs up to 400 workers a day at the peak of the season. A former champion shearer himself, he’s a great guide to the world of shearing.

Shearing Gang is an event filled, unpredictable, funny, beautiful, inspiring series that takes the viewer behind the scenes of a little known industry and presents a warts-and-all account of how life in shearing gangs is.

Starts Tuesday January 31st at 9.35pm, only on PRIME
