50 Years of Golden Shears in New Zealand

The detailed and colourful unfolding of five decades of the world´s premier shearing event – a vital part of New Zealand´s unique rural heritage of sheep farming and wool production. For each decade there is an overview of the state of the sheep industry and developments on and off the farm coupled with year-by-year highlights of each Golden Shears – the personalities, the records, the changing nature of the competition with the introduction of Woolhandling and pressing in the 1980´s.

SHEAR HISTORY is packed with over 300 photographs, including colour sections. There are also chapters covering the international shearing competitions associated with Golden Shears and the special role women have played in its history. The book includes a full record of those placed in all events through the 50 years and a comprehensive index.

SHEAR HISTORY has been compiled with the contributions from Golden Shears identities and some of New Zealand´s leading rural and shearing writers.
