Sunday March 2 2008 THREE of the team to represent New Zealand at the Shearing and Woolhandling World Champs were announced last night after some stellar performances at Masterton’s Golden Shears 2008. Golden Shears 2008 Open Shearing champ John Kirkpatrick from Napier made the cut as one of the team’s two shearers after an incendiary performance on the board last night beating 2007 champ Paul Avery and 15-times Shears winner David Fagan to take back the title he first won in 2002. The other shearer will be selected at the Te Kuiti New Zealand Shearing Championships later this month. Woolhandlers Jo Kumeroa of Wanganui and Taihape’s Sheree “Jack” Alabaster will represent New Zealand in the woolhandling at the World Champs in Norway in October. Alabaster was the top qualifier in the World Woolhandling Selection Final held at the Golden Shears yesterday. Two-times World Champ Kumeroa followed in second place.
